slowly walking down the hill
wind lifted grass
swaying and
yawning
i see the cage where i left him
(the man behind the chain link)
yelling and spitting that he would
steal my car
my girl
anything he could get his
grubby little hands on
if only he could rid of this fence
surrounding him
i whistle him a tune
if he ever figures
how to get out
i'll want to know as well
we have the kind of contact
i wish she could adapt
a chirstmas card every other year
dwindling until it's only when
you remember
to finally nothing
because i'm not worth
any recollection
and she aches to
show me that
finished eating an hour ago
staring at my fingers
today's sunshine girl is in full debate
i know her
i met her
i loved her
why runs dry on my lips
"hey pretty girl"
jane
why's her name have to be jane
run of the mill name
spelling my Jane with exotic "i's" and "y's"
wishing i could spell her different
bottom line is i still look up
and say thank you
still look at the ground
past my feet
past the crust
thank you
staring at my fingers
